The Charity SUSHI day in The Hague】

【寄付先】WFP(国連世界食糧計画)

Hello everyone! I am Mari Hosho, a writer of the WAKAMUSHA in Leiden.
First of all, I would like to apologize for my misunderstanding and delay on the report.

This time, we WAKAMUSHA would like to report on the Charity Sushi Day in the Hague, organized by Sera Sunagawa, who is an exchange student to a high school in Den Haag.

[DATE] March 25th, 2011 (Fri.) First & Second break

[PLACE] Haags Montessori Lyceum, Den Haag
[NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS]  Around 10 ( Including Sera's American and Dutch friends)

[TOTAL AMOUNT COLLECTED] 481.89 euro
[DESTINATION] WFP (World Food Program)
    * We chose WFP for our motivation toward donating for those who need the donation "now" and also the credibility as a constituent of the United Nations.
    * The same as before.

According to Sera,  the Charity Sushi day was a successful bazaar ever since the establishment of her high school. Apparently, sushi, a typical Japanese food that has many steady fans, advertising strategies through posters, mails and facebook have all contributed to the day's success.

Making rolls of sushi requires a lot of preparation from the day before the actual bazaar. Behind this good news there are many people who are involved and helped to go through the activity. We would like to express our gratitude for those who had been helpful. It has been a delightful news for all of our members.

Questions and comments regarding the activity are always welcome.

WAKAMUSHA in Leiden is still full of plans and events coming up.
Please stay tuned for our activities and updates.

【ご挨拶 // Greetings from the representative】

Welcome to the website of "WAKAMUSHA in Leiden".
I am Akira Igarashi, the representative of "WAKAMUSHA in Leiden".

First of all, I would like to express my hearty sympathy with those who lost their family, friends and familiar places because of the disaster happened in Japan.

Although two weeks has passed since the earthquake occurred, Japan is still in chaos.
It is not only because of the leakage of radioactivity from a nuclear plant in Fukuoka but also from the unclear vision of the future. The issues concerning prospective electric-power resources, shortage of goods and funds for restoration etc... People living in Japan today have an extensive list of worries.

Nobody knows when Japan can recover its original vitality.

Sure, roads and houses may be reconstructed relatively quick. In fact, there are roads that are reconstructed six days after the disaster. However, for those who suffered from the series of disasters and those who live in Japan, the mental and materialistic stability would not come so quickly. It may take a very long time that has never been experienced before.

We, "WAKAMUSHA in Leiden", are constituted of the following activities:

1.Short-term intensive supports (e.g.) fund raising in towns
2. Long-term continuous activities with the consensus of prospective exchange students to Leiden

The short-term activities will end briefly in our current generation of exchange period (around June 2011).However, we would like the prospective students to keep sending the messages no matter how subtle they may be.

It is true that we are not big organization enough to save thousands of people. However, we believe that our actions may save even one person's life. We also believe that they may indirectly support people who suffer without being recognized. If these objectives are achieved, I am convinced that the establishment of this organization will be meaningful.

I have found an interesting quote from an internet:
"It is the biggest disaster ever observed, therefore it will achieve the biggest restoration ever observed."

We will keep passing down to the next generation of exchange students our WAKAMUSHA's aim of supporting Japan for its materialistic and mental recovery from the Nethelands until it is realized. We hope that they will keep sending some forms of messages to Japan just like us.

Best regards,

March 27th, 2011     Akira Igarashi
